What is Section 179?
Section 179 of the IRS tax code was put in place by the U.S. government to encourage capital spending and investment. It allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment and/or software purchased/financed during the current tax year. The deduction for this tax year, 2022, has gone up from $1,050,000 (in 2021) to $1,080,000.
What to know regarding Section 179?
Purchases of business equipment, office furniture, computers, software and technology as well as many other business assets qualify for Section 179. To elect the Section 179 tax deduction, qualifying assets must be purchased and put into service during the tax year for which you are electing the deduction.
