Now let’s get to know Rick and the All Star Sales business! 

Can you tell us a bit about All Star Sales? ALL STAR SALES is a used truck and trailer facility located in Southeast Texas. We try to keep an inventory of multiple makes and models for different trucking applications.  

How did you get involved in the truck industry? The owner of ALL STAR SALES started out as a technician with a local dealer and ventured out on his own with a mobile truck service and grew his business into service, parts, and sales for trucking.  

Texas is a large state with a lot of truck dealerships. What is the biggest competitive advantage of All Star Sales? It is a competitive industry with a lot of variables playing into trucking. An advantage with ALL STAR SALES is dealing with a company who has been in the industry and has developed relationships with various individuals and companies that help provide inventory and knowledge of our industry. We feel this in turn helps us provide a product in a way that meets our customers' needs.  

The ongoing supply chain issues have really impacted the equipment market and trucks are no exception. How has All Star Sales responded to this? The best we can (lol). Similar to what helps us have a competitive advantage in the industry helps with the supply chain issues. We have numerous existing customers and vendors within the industry. This allows us to be flexible with inventory and knowledge of the available inventory that is in the market. Trucking and transportation have a lot of different avenues that can be tapped into to help be competitive and overcome hurdles. Trucks, trailers, equipment, parts, service, repairs, financing, warranty, towing, and recovery, if a person is involved in trucking, they will have a need for one if not all these avenues. The more of these we can provide the better opportunity we can provide for the customer.  

What are some current trends you see in the transportation industry and what are some changes you foresee happening in the future in this industry? Lack of drivers has and at this point continues to be a major factor. Another factor affecting the industry is the technician availability and the knowledge base of old and current trucks. The industry has turned to more automatic transmissions as a solution to attract and retain drivers as well as help them be successful as a truck driver. Technology has become a big part of trucking with systems that help dispatching and driver communication. Trucks become more and more technical, and the driver shortage combined with the difficulty of finding technicians who can work on the trucks will drive the cost of trucking upward. Creating more demand for financing. My opinion is that customers will continue to purchase, and the increases will be passed to the end consumer as in most businesses. I do think that longer financing terms will help with purchases of trucks and equipment.
